They probably just want to test the waters so to speak and see where this gets them first. Maybe they are trying to revive and continue it. I hope it's not the finale and something in the trailer popped up on screen saying "For the renewal of an adventure game pioneer." Not sure what or who that pertains to or what it means what it was text that popped on screen in the trailer in front of those gears and cogs between the other images and footage in the trailer. I too would be sad if this is the finale of the franchise and would understand and respect that, but at the same time I get the feeling that that may be up in the air and probably isn't the finale.
Also like said somewhere else the only thing I see different about her that stands out more than anything else is her eyes being less brown and more green, but that's just small nitpick of mine. Kate still seems like Kate to me in terms of her face regardless of what engine they used maybe she has more likeness to the motion capture model for both Dana and Kate if they had one that is and if the model is the same for both characters that's just my little theory.
